Celebrating 52 Years of Plumb Nellie Days!

1812 was a big year for Missouri! That’s the year Branson was founded. Then, 1960 became a big year for Branson. That’s when Plumb Nellie Days was “born.” In April, 1960 Branson celebrated, with tongue in cheek, Plumb Nellie Days (Plumb Nearly Anything Goes Days). This was not a new concept since these “days” were seriously celebrated when Branson was founded 50 years earlier. Plumb-nearly anything was permitted during this event where people loved to act and dress strangely. In the 1960s, approximately 3,000 people attended and/or participated in Plumb Nellie Days cakewalks, horseshoe pitching, hog calling, marble games, mumbly peg, fishing contests, foot races, celebrity speakers, band concerts and so forth. Everyone wore antique costumes and only genuine antique cars or horses were permitted on the town’s streets.On May 1st, Silver Dollar City officially opened. In August of 1960, The Old Mill Theater at Inspiration Point launched its Shepherd of the Hills play at their outdoor amphitheater.The 2012 52nd Plumb Nellie Days will once again be full of crafts, food, live entertainment and more.Visit our Website often for event updates and a schedule. More than 150 crafters will exhibit their work during the 52nd Plumb Nellie Arts & Crafts Festival in Historic Downtown Branson Thursday through Saturday, May 17-19. Crafters and artists throughout the country will participate. Shoppers will find a wide variety of items including wood crafts, quilts, clothing, crocheted or knitted items, hats, purses, ladies’ accessories, toys, floral arrangements, ironwork, collectibles and more! In addition to the many craft vendors on hand, there will also be food vendors, a children’s area, live entertainment and a street dance on Friday Night. Sponsorship opportunities are still available!
